Jeep Renegade EV to Debut in 2027

The Jeep Renegade, a nameplate that was retired in 2023, is set to make a grand return in 2027 with an electric powertrain and a starting price under $25,000. This exciting news was confirmed by Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa during a recent presentation to investors.

The New 2027 Jeep Renegade EV

Jeep has decided to reincarnate the Renegade as an all-electric vehicle. This new model will share little with its gas-powered predecessor apart from its name and segment. Although gas-powered and hybrid versions haven't been ruled out, Filosa's announcement focused solely on the electric variant. The starting price for the next-gen Renegade EV is set to be under $25,000, but it's unclear if this price will include potential tax credits.

Challenges and Innovations

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares also spoke at the event, highlighting the need to produce lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries to achieve the $25,000 price point in the United States. Currently, neither Jeep nor Stellantis can produce these cheaper LFP batteries domestically, which may pose a challenge for obtaining federal tax credits.

Expanding Jeep Lineup

The return of the Renegade isn't the only exciting change coming to Jeep's lineup. The brand's first EV, the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S, is expected to launch by the end of this year, followed by the Wrangler-sized Recon in late 2024. Additionally, a new generation of the Compass will debut by the end of 2027. While the current Compass features a 200-hp turbo four and standard all-wheel drive, the new generation may include Jeep's 4xe plug-in-hybrid powertrain.

Upcoming Launches

Next year will see two more product launches from Jeep. One model will be built on the STLA Large platform, and the other on the STLA Medium platform. It's speculated that the recently confirmed return of the Cherokee will be built on the Medium platform. As for the Large model, it may be filled by 4xe versions of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer full-size SUVs. Filosa mentioned these powertrains as "range-extender" setups, possibly sharing a setup with the 2025 Ramcharger plug-in-hybrid pickup.

Refreshing the Classics

Jeep's production graphics presented to investors hinted at refreshed versions of the Wrangler, Gladiator, Grand Cherokee, and Wagoneer lineups by 2027. This aligns with production documents leaked last year, suggesting exciting times ahead for Jeep enthusiasts.

Stay tuned for more updates on Jeep's evolving lineup and the eagerly anticipated return of the Renegade in 2027!
